About Echo Glen Children's Center
Echo Glen Children’s Center in Snoqualmie is a medium/maximum security facility bordered by natural wetlands. It provides treatment services for younger male offenders and is the only institution for female offenders. Echo Glen provides educational services for a wide range of youth with varying needs. It provides Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Aggression Replacement Training (ART), cultural programming, sex offense-specific treatment, and inpatient chemical dependency treatment. Echo Glen offers gender-specific programming for female offenders. It is also known for its Canine Connection program, which allows youth to train future service animals. Female youthful offenders sentenced by the Department of Corrections also reside at Echo Glen.
Information for Parents, Guardians, and Family
Every youth residing at Echo Glen has an assigned counselor who serves as the youth’s case manager. Counselors work with the youth to assess their needs and provide appropriate treatment. Some of this treatment will occur during counseling sessions with the case manager, while others will occur in a specialized setting.
Echo Glen staff provide a wide variety of treatment options for youth, including psychiatric, psychological, and pharmaceutical treatments. Echo Glen Children's Center has a medical and dental clinic on site.
Visitation
Visitation is scheduled in advance by calling the facility to make arrangements. Most visitation occurs on weekends however weekday visiting is available upon request.
Future Planning and Transition
Parents, guardians, and family members are invited to attend all future planning meetings and are considered part of the team that builds the future plan for their youth throughout their stay and beyond. The goal of the plan is to return the youth to their home or new community in a way that meets their needs for school, work, treatment, free time, and living arrangements.
Youth at Echo Glen Children’s Center may transition to a Community Facility before being released from JR. Once they are home, they may or may not have a parole obligation. JR currently provides parole services to about half of the youth it serves. Your counselor can tell you if your child will be on parole.
Educational and Vocational Programs
Educational services are provided on-site by Issaquah School District teachers, with 28 classrooms available on the upper campus and five portable classrooms available for maximum-security and special needs youth. Students have access to year-round school and can earn credits or their GED.
