Keshia defines herself as a mother of three, educator, and lifelong learner. Keshia has been advocating for kids and families by defining and creating authentic relationships and partnerships for over 20 years. Professionally, Keshia brings robust experience working in early childhood and K-12 education systems.
Keshia has worked as an infant and toddler teacher, as a high school special education educator, and in a local school district in multiple roles focused on helping students and their families successfully navigate the K-12 educational system. Keshia brings nearly a decade of experience working in the nonprofit sector working with policymakers to come to communities and to bring communities to the policy making table. Keshia led legislative policy campaigns for our state which spurred awareness and support to turn many infant and parent support initiatives into state policies. Keshia also brings professional and personal lived experience in the intersections of maternal, infant, elderly, and mental health care system sectors as a former board member of several perinatal organizations, as a committee member of many legislative workgroups, as a mother, caretaker, survivor, and advocate.
Keshia prides herself on having over 15 years of rich experience as a facilitator of racial and social justice dialogue – helping all multi-racial groups deepen their knowledge and capacity to understand and unite. She has worked alongside many DCYF leaders and the licensing division. Keshia is excited to bring her experience to Office of Racial Equity and Social Justice as she continues to learn and grow with staff to best serve the children, youth, families, and communities of Washington State.
